46 Short - Truth Denied - TKO Records - $6.00 shipping included
The latest full-length CD from Long Beach, CA's 46 SHORT. For years this band has been hammering out their faithful, straigh ahead style of classic HC Punk in the vein of CIRCLE JERKS, BLACK FLAG and early POISON IDEA. All four members of 46 SHORT are Punk scene veterans who have devoted years of their lives playing in bands, running record stores, booking tours and promoting local shows. 46 SHORT's dedication to HC Punk is obvious in every bashed-out drum beat, screamed lyric and brutal guitar chord on this new 13-track CD. With a circle pit-inducing sound straight outta '82 and politically/socially conscience lyrics with their sights set on today's issues, "Turth Denied" is destined to be a modern Hardcore/Punk classic. TRACK LIST: Nothing Left / Human "Race" / Wolves / Damned Nation / Left & Right / Still Walking / Cancer / Prisoner / Questions Of Futility / Pornography / Rewrite The Script / Poor Man's Plague / In Harm's Way |

A Planet For Texas - Sprechen Sie Rock? - Diaphragm Records - $6.00 shipping included
Coming straight atcha from da CMH (that's Columbus, Ohio if you didn't know) is the sophomore release from A Planet For Texas. Some people around here might call this agri-core or even cow-punk, but I like to refer to it as full-throttle, shut yer piehole, fuck you, punk and roll. Drugs, drinks, and punks...what more do you need?! A Planet For Texas plays straight-ahead up-tempo punk rock, that will leave you gasping for air, as if you just bonged the first beer of your career. Never letting up once even to finish their own drink, APFT hand you a can-o-whoop-ass and forces you to open it. Don't even think about holding on to your plastic cup of booze, cause you'll have nothing left once you start jumping around, pumping your fist, and singing along to "On The Lawn", "Truckstop Speed", and "The Lutheran Sisterhood Gun Club". Catchy punk rock, with the an authoritative punch that forces you into submission. Grab a beer and prepare to receive the ass kicking that APFT is going to lay on you. |

Between The Buried And Me - Colors - Victory Records - $6.00 shipping included
BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME have built their reputation as one of hard rock’s most inventive and ambitious bands. Sharing a lineage with such luminaries as PINK FLOYD, KING CRIMSON and TOOL, they continue to explore new territory with a genuine passion to push themselves and their audience. They dream the impossible and they make it happen time and time again. Colors, the band’s newest record, is a sonic labyrinth of grand proportion. It’s an organism completely in its own class and at the nerve center is a band that encourages the listener to take the bold ride from beginning to end. The record is a continuous movement of savage metal, lush prog-rock and stimulating mood that morphs into some of the most forward thinking music today. Yet for a record that is so fierce and complex, it is also engaging and comfortable. It challenges the myths of what we expect from modern rock, demonstrating just how much potential there is in a band and the people who experience their craft. |

El Centro - Prohibido! - Finger Records - $6.00 shipping included
The sophmore release from El Centro is nothing short of a masterpiece of Southern California punk rock. With elements of ska, punk, pop, and rock, this is an album you can't miss. The first few tracks remind me of Pennywise (probably due to the producer Jerry Finn), then there are some breakdown songs that sound like they were influenced by Sublime, afterwards it picks up to some sort of pop punk sound. The lyrics are insightful and entertaining, just what you'd expect from a ska-punk-rock SoCal band. Every song is gratifying and fullfiling, you just can't get enough of this album, I've listened to it three times in a row already! My favorite tracks would include the rawkous "No Denial", the ska-esque sound on "Bouncy Song", and the pop punk nature of "Disaster All". All the songs on "Prohibito" are tight...perfect music for all occasions! "Prohibito" is a stellar release that you must get if you're a fan of the west coast ska-pop-punk rock sound. This is another disc that I will nominate for "Best Album Of The Year"! |

El Nada - Nothing For Nobody - Finger Records - $6.00 shipping included
El Nada play a cross between skate punk and street rock. Really cool stuff they've got going on. Kinda reminds me of Surf Punks and maybe a little of U.S. Bombs, it's totally rocking, solid through and through. The more and more I listen there is even more influences that I pick up on...this is even old school punk rock, you know distortion and thrash sounds all over the place. This is the way skate punk should sound, all mixed up and crazy, annihilation of the music with pure punk attitude. Fifteen tracks of running from the cops, chicks, bums, and surfing...even a song using almost exclusively the word "Fuck" (in fact that's the title). Only one song goes over two and a half minutes, so you know it's hard and fast, just what you need! El Nada have pretty much the SoCal sound that helped to put that area on the map, i.e. foot to the floor hardcore street punk with the attitude of nothing matters other than having a good time. The album never lets up, not even for a second, it's a party you don't want to miss! Drop everything and grab this disc if you're into the street/surf punk scene from the west coast. |

Hudson Falcons - Singles Collection - Street Anthem Records - $6.00 shipping included
This album is just what every street punk rockers, oi! star, beer-swillin' rock n roller or fan of great music needs to complete their record collection! Hudson Falcons, often compared to Springsteen (probably due to their Jersey connection), Swingin' Utters and Stiff Little Fingers, are offering up an extremely fine anthology highlighting their splits, compilation inclusions, full length releases, all tightly packaged on one disc. You get twenty tracks of Mark Linskey's incredible song writing, the band's evolution through the several rotating members, demo releases, covers and more. I mean seriously, if you are a fan of punk rock, you are a fan of Hudson Falcons...period. Perhaps the best part about this disc is the fact that you are getting material that certainly has to be out of print or cannot be found anywhere, ecept in an audiophiles sacred stash. I'm talking about tracks from a split with GC5, a couple self titled 7"ers, a split with Blood For Blood, several unreleased tracks, demo versions... And my personal favorite from the disc is an electrified version of "Get Me Another Drink". I recently heard the acoustic version on "Go Contrary, Go Sing", which incidentally is fucking amazing, but the electric version is something more to behold, that I now place Mark Linskey as one of the greatest songwriters of the underground scene that I have experienced in my life (and I've been on this planet in one form or another for over 30 years). This assortment of tracks that would be incredibly difficult, if not impossible, to gather individually now is available in one smartly packaged disc for all to experience. Don't miss out on this disc, then run out and get the band's two full length albums. You'll be thanking me until Hudson Falcons release their next bombshell and we'll all be scrambling to get it. |

The Jackalopes - Jacksploitation! - Mosquito Hawk Records - $6.00 shipping included
The latest album from the Jackalopes hits you right off the bat with the excitement and sing-alongs that make the Jackalopes such a great live band. Songs about sex, midgets, liquor, beer, yer mom, and Motley Crue....what else should music be about? Feelings? Fuck that! A downright animated disc that really moves ya, "Jacksploitation" is a great example of how fluid and original the Jackalopes are. These guys shift through genres of punk, rock and even rock-a-billy with such ease, you never know what you'll hear next until your done singing along with the Reverend Wells. Additionally, The Rev has got one of the best set of lungs you'll hear anywhere, especially live. Putting music to the Reverend's messages are Ron on guitar, JayJay (GeeGee?) at bass, and Kyle on the skins. "Jacksploitation" shows all the diverse influences of the Jackalopes, such as the Misfits, classic rock, psychobilly, and various punk bands. There are sixteen (listed) tracks of non-stop rock-yer-ass music, and a "hidden" track at the end. Dunno what it's called but it's just as badass as the others. Keep an ear out for standout tracks such as: "1% Muthafucka", "Pristine Fifteen", and "Good Clean Fun". Best line on the disc comes from "1% Muthafucka": "And for a midnight snack, I got your momma's snatch in a Ziplock bag." |

Liberty - Outlaw Hooligans - Feeder Fish Records - $6.00 shipping included
Liberty, from Florida, plays drunken punk rock in the vein of just about any aggressive pub rock band you can think of. "Outlaw Hooligans" is pretty straight forward punk rock addressing drinking, fighting, standing your ground and having a good time. This release is an EP, I think. That's because there are only five songs on the disc, all of which float around the two minute mark. Liberty get it done with a quickness that will leave your head spinning, like a good hangover. Liberty even manages to cover the classic tune "Louie, Louie" and put their own drunken spin on it! Interesting to say the least....kinda reminds me of a bar show out of control with everyone drunk and trying to sing karoke! Liberty is a fast moving band, with sing-along choruses and an altogether great sound that I dig! Unfortunately there are only five tracks on here, but I really feel that a full-length would showcase Liberty in all their alcoholic glory. Certainly a release that you won't want to miss! |
