What do I do once signed up?
We suggest you look around the program and take a closer look at all of the advertising scenarios available through Hussieskunk. Your next step should be to add funds to your account balance. You can do that through PayPal or with a credit cerd (again through PayPal). With each deposit to your account, we will add 5% as a bonus for making a deposit. Following adding additional funds to your account balance, you should place a bid on an advertising scenario. |

How does the advertising program work?
This is probably the single most asked question, while at the same time the easiest and hardest to explain. The basic idea behind the program is to allow for cheap advertising to all. Cheap in the sense that the pricing is dictated by you, the user. Now for the more complex part... When you place a bid, you are placing a bid for two things: 1. Percent Show and 2. Impressions.
Percent Show is based on the percent of time out of 1000 impressions that your advertisement will be seen. For instance, if you are listed as the top bidder on the "All Page Banner" campaign, you are entitled to 350 impressions per 1000 shown, or 35% of the time your advert will be shown as opposed to others that have placed 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th. This basic tenent applies on all advertising scenarios offered.
Impressions are the second part of what you are bidding on, this works hand in hand with Percent Show. Regardless of your position on the bid chart, your advertisement will be shown 1000 times per bid amount. How fast you reach that 1000 impressions corresponds to your placement among the active bids. For instance, if you are the 1st place bid on the campaign "All Page Banner" your advert appears 350 times per 1000 impressions...it will only take approximately 3 cycles of 1000 impressions for your advertisement to reach 1000 impressions. That being the case, you will not pay your full bid until you have reached 1000 impressions. That is to say, that you will be charged on a per impression basis, but not fully charged your entire bid until you reach 1000 impressions. |

How much do I pay to advertise?
Well that's up to you. How long do you plan to run an advertisement? Let's assume a few things, first you are only looking to run an advertisement 1000 times (1000 impressions), second you bid $0.15 for those 1000 shows, last after you reach 1000 shows you remove your bid. At that point your total cost is $0.15. Let's take a closer look at the numbers: You bid $0.15 to get the 1st place bid on the "All Page Banner" campaign. This equates to $0.00015 per impression, or fifteen hundred thousandths of a penny per impression ($0.15 divided by 1000 shows). If you decide to continue to 1100 total shows (impressions), you will be charged an additional $0.015 ($0.00015 times 100) for a total of $0.165. You are charged on a per impression basis, based on your base bid of $0.15 per 1000 impressions.
The easiaest way to consider costs is to decide how much you are willing to spend and for how often you want your advertisement to show? Based on these you can decide which advertisement campaign and at what level of bid you will need to make to get your advertisement shown. |
| |
What do I pay per impression?
Use this equation (yeah, math time): Bid / 1000 = Cost Per Impression. That is divide your bid by 1000, and that is what you will pay per impression. |
| |
When do I pay for advertising?
We have to assume that you have a credit (positive) amount in your account balance. If that is the case, you are charged from your balance the moment your advertisement shows. You are not charged until your advertisement shows. If you recieve 500 impressions, and recind your bid, you will have only been charged for half (500/1000= .5)of your bid. In order to be charged your full bid, you would have had to reach 1000 impressions. |
| |
When does my advertisement begin circulating on the site?
As soon as your bid and advertisement is accepted, your advertisement begins to circulate in it's assigned location. This feature is near instantaneous, as Hussieskunk staffers review all advertisement to be sure that they are appropriate for the site. |
| |
What is the daily average of impressions on Hussieskunk?
Each advertising campaign has average daily impression amounts listed in their descriptions. You will have to access the advertising program to view these numbers. The average is a dynamic number that changes, well, daily. The most prolific advertisement featured on Hussieskunk is the "All Page Banner" campaign. As of this date (10/14/06) that campaign receives over 11,000 impressions daily and is increasing at an exponential rate. |

How do I place a bid?
When you place a bid, you are asked a couple of things. First, what is your bid, you will be provided the minimum bid requirement, as well as the required bid to reach 1st place. Second, you will be required to provide whether this is a new advertisement or an existing advertisement. If this is a new advert, you will select "Create New Ad...". Next, do you want to be notified via email if your bid gets outbid (we recommend this, so that you can stay on top of your bid's placement).
Following the bid page comes the information regarding your advert. You will need to provide the exact URL to where you want visitors to go when they click your advert. Next, you need to provide the size and location of your advertisement (we do not currently allow uploading of images). Finally you are asked to provide a name for this advert. The name of your advert will be kept on file for future use, or should you decide to remove that advertisement from rotation. |
| |
My advertisement is larger/smaller in size than allowed, what can I do?
If your advertisement is too large, it will not be accepted by the program. If you do not provide the true size of your advertisement, it will be deleted from circulation, along with your bid. If your advertisement is smaller than the stated sizes, this may prove to be alright. Although we highly recommend that you stay close to the suggested dimensions. |
| |
How will I know if I have been outbid?
We highly suggest that when placing your bid, you select to be notified about being outbid. If you do not select this option when placing a bid, you will have to check back on your bid all the time to make sure you haven't been outbid. |
| |
Can I underbid/outbid other advertisers?
In short, yes. That is the beauty of an auction system, bidders are allowed to state how much they are willing to spend and to sit back and wait to see if their bid is accepted. To look at both situations though, let's start with the easier of the two: the overbid.
Overbid: simply stated, this is outbidding the highest bidder. When you go to place a bid, you will be shown what is the minmum bid, the required bid to show and the required bid to reach the top position. Place a bid that is higher than the rest and you are in 1st place. Place a bid under 1st, but above 2nd, and you are in 2nd place. Simple.
Underbid: the underbid can be just as important and certainly cheaper than an overbid. In an underbid, you bid the minimum amount required or an amount far under the current bids, but above the minimum required. At this point, you have placed your advertisement on a waiting list of sorts. Your bid may put you in 10th place overall, however as bidders remove their bid or fall out of the top spots for one reason or another, your bid begins to move up (unless you are outbid). The fortunate part about under bidding is that it allows you to state what you are willing to pay regardless of placement in the top positions. You will only be shown when your bid places you in a position to show. |
| |
Can I retract a bid if I am done advertising?
Again, the short answer is yes. The long answer: Go to your account, select "Account Management", then "Manage Bids". From this page you will be able to change a bid or remove a bid. |
| |
What happens when my account balance goes to zero?
If your account balance goes to zero, before you replensh it, all of your advertisements and bids will be retracted automatically. If your balance reaches a point where you can no longer sustain one of several advertisement campaigns, your bids will be removed sytematically based on affordability. It is important that if you plan to advertise for a long period of time, that you ensure you have enough funds in your balance. |
| |
How do I add funds to my account balance?
To add funds to your account go to your account and select "Payments". From the following screen you can pay via PayPal, Hussieskunk's preffered method. Payment made through PayPal will replenish your account balance immediately, with a 5% bonus. The minimum balance increase through PayPal is $2.00. You can also mail a payment of cash, check or money order to Hussieskunk for the amount you wish to increase your balance. Mailed payments will recieve the same bonus online transactions receive, just not as quickly obviously. |
| |
Tell me about the bonus I get for adding money to my account balance.
All replenishments to your account balance will receive a 5% bonus on top of your deposited amount. A $2.00 deposit will get an additional $0.10, a $10.00 deposit will get a $0.50 adder, etc, etc. Mailed in payments will also receieve this bonus.
