Waiting For A Miracle (released 2007)

On this self titled release, Waiting For A Miracle remind me a lot of Armor For Sleep. Waiting For A Miracle's style is catchy metal tinged rock, something of a delicate balance between rock, hardcore, metal and even some punk elements. However, this is not punk in the traditional sense, it's punk in the modern sense. This isn't street, oi or even first generation hardcore. It's an algamation of everything I described above, which I suppose could be listed under the moniker "modern rock". But I think that Waiting For A Miracle delivers more than that. Waiting For A Miracle's style, again bringing to mind that of Armor For Sleep, depends as much on the lyrics as it does the actual music. The vocals define each and every track, as the guitars dance in the background, the bass and drums deliver a solid pounding that is very potent on each song. It's the lyrics that take center stage thanks to the awesome vocal delivery. The mood of each track is what is being defined by the stunning vocals. This ten track debut album from Waiting For A Miracle, contains a couple of tracks that will set them away from their peers. The opener, "Washing Us Away", with it's thunderous first thirty seconds sold me on the album right away! "End This Tonight", has the hypnotic guitar riff that numbs your mind, only to have Waiting For A Miracle explode upon you with the meat of the track. By the third track, "Mother May I", the Armor For Sleep comparison reaches it's zenith, as the band plays with tempo and melody to create a haunting and pounding song, perhaps the best on the album. That and you cannot deny the catchiness of shouting "Mother may I cause dicomfort..." Finally, the density of the sound coming off this album is worth the price of admission. One thing you will not be disappointed about is the level of the volume on here; Waiting For A Miracleuses it to their advantage and it shows. Loud is good! Hotfoot Records seems to grow bands as great as Waiting For A Miracle on a tree! The hardcore rhythms, metal influenced guitars, catchy lyrics and varied tempos define not only this band, but the entire roster of acts on Hotfoot. I for one dig it! Waiting For A Miracle has delivered a great, no...stellar album that will only be the start of even bigger things. Fans of Armor For Sleep, Anberlin and the like should not miss out on Waiting For A Miracle. -MG |
