Victorian Halls EP (released 2005)
Self Produced
While Victorian Halls are easily an emo driven band, that doesn't take away from their ability to write catchy, pop driven songs that also manage to rock yer ass really well. This 3-song Ep of sorts is a great introduction to the band and a perfect dosage of the band. The first track features plenty of screaming and sing-a-long parts, but also has the band tearing down their guitars and trashing the drums to no end. "We Take The New World Back In Novembe" is simply an incredible splash of rock and emo, of which I can say I am a huge fan thanks to this track. The band goes on the rest of the disc with a few slower jams, more melodic and dramatic than the first song, "The Ghost In The Attic" also features the whiney, screamy vocals, but it's easily more mellow than the first track. By the end of the disc, "The Pact" closes things out with acoustic guitars, dry, raspy vocals, and almost a love ballad feel to it. It's an excellent closer to such a short disc. The band has got an incredible ability to write songs, reminds me of early Taking Back Sunday, and look where they are! Victorian Falls are certainly on the same path, as their sound is remarkably similar, more power to them to achieve the same level of TBS in the near future. -MG |
