Veda is a four-piece from Kansas City, Missouri and plays an artsy, bluesy-laced rock music that reminds one of Coldplay with a female singer. While this isn't a punk rock album, it certainly is indie rock, which can still be good... However, this album is a little slow and dreary for me. I like the vocalist, Kristen May, she can really belt it out, but the album never really takes off. It's mellow and drawn out rock meant to swoon you and put you in a transcendental state. It's damn near hypnotic, as I have been listening to the five-song EP for days now. Why haven't I put it away after just a few listens? I'm telling you, it's hypnotic! The album is great background music to keep your mind free, clear and able to dispel distraction easily. The music, like I said brings to mind Coldplay or any variation of them, and it appears that the band cannot play unless Kristen is singing, cause she's always singing or saying something. Maybe it's part of the allure to have a sing that can blend well with the guitars, but for me, I like both vocals and guitars. I have run across this curiosity before, where vocalists blend with the music...sometimes it works, but often times not. Either way, this EP release featuring five of the bands first six recordings is easy on the ears and makes a great soundtrack to easy through the day, but Veda is lacking the emotion and energy required for my tatses. -MG
