The Power Of Music: A Comprehensive Collection of 40 Canadian Artists For A Cause (released 2005)
Underground Operations - www.undergroundoperations.com
This is one sweet comp album! Two discs, forty bands, all kinds of punk...and all for a cause! The disc is dedicated (and all proceeds go to) OCAP, the Ontario Coalition Against Poverty. Just about every variation of punk rock is represented from pop-punk rockers Belvedere to screamers I Hate Sally to ska-rockers Bedouin Soundclash. You get perhaps one of the best collections of Canadaian music ever compiled. Most of what is on the disc is unreleased material, b-sides or out of print tracks that have been generously donated to support the cause. Again, the cause being OCAP is "an organization of poor and working people fighting to create a society without poverty, exploitation and oppression." Sure, that's an ideal society, and many of us probably accept that it may never come, but OCAP is there to lay the seeds of the revolution that surely has the support to take place. It's really only a matter of time and effort from all. In the meantime, the soundtrack will get you through the rough spots of the coming change, and it can only help to further the organization's efforts when you pick up the disc for your own selfish reason. Mine? I wanted to get forty songs that I didn't own and to make a contribution to a future utopian society. Yeah, I did my part! Now it's your turn... Go out, get a copy of the disc that features more Canadian bands than you've cared to admit exist. Seriously, how can you say no to a comp that features Choke, The Matadors, Planet Smashers, The Failure, controller.controller, Kilbourne, and Closet Monster? Just as the title of this compilation says: "A Comprehensive Collection of 40 Canadian Artists For A Cause", the disc is chock full of artists from the west coast to the east and is only there to further the work and development efforts of those fighting for all our rights as an individuals. -MG |
