Where The Fun Never Sets, Volume 1 (released 2007)
Cabana 1 Records - www.cabana1records.com
Cabana 1 Records always puts out some of the best pop punk albums, comps and bands on the planet; this release is no exception. Featuring twenty-five artist from around the world, the album furthers the point that Go Kart Records offered earlier this year that "Pop Punk's Not Dead". The beauty in Cabana 1's version of pop punk versus Go Kart's is that many of the band's on this release are truely independent, or at least lesser known than those featured on Go Kart's comp. However, there are a couple of bands that committed to both discs, and in one case, even submitted the same song. All that aside, Cabana 1 really exudes a retro feel to many of their releases and even selects artists and songs that have a real beach feel to them. This album actually functions as a sunny, happy, bouncy release that really should have been released (and reviewed by me) in the summertime! The label has delivered another batch of tunes that are nothing more than a summer party soudntrack, fit for everyone, even the heartiest punk rockers out there. Another great item about this disc, is that a portion of every sale, and a matching contribution from the label, goes to benefit the Surf Riders Foundation...a group working to keep our beaches clean...and happy! The compilatioin features many unreleased tracks and new tracks from artists looking to make a name for themselves, or better yet further their own good one... Bands like the Queers, the Peabodys, the Prozacs and the Manges are the clear stand outs. But bands such as the Barbecuties, Muwamps and the Highschool Dropouts offer some of the better, not-so-well-known, songs. All in all, this is another great compilation from Cabana 1 who never fails to deliver the best in up beat, pop punk rock from around the world! -MG |
