This is a strange little release. In fact, I'm not sure that Hussieskunk was intended to receive this disc! All of the other releases from the label contained promo sheets or info regarding a release in the package... This disc had nothing, and to be honest, it's a little difficult to classify it as punk rock. The album is a split between two bands from NYC, featuring two tracks from each group. The first, Guignol plays the real deal gypsy music... The scary kind of music, the type where you know you are being cursed for looking at the circus carnie the wrong way... It's interesting, but I felt as though I was being watched as I listened to the tracks... Those gypsies, you can never tell about them, they're always watching and looking to use their gypsy powers... As for the other band, Nanuchka, they play a pop rock kind of sounding music. It's entertaining for sure, but a little sugary. Again, not really punk rock, but certainly indie enough to qualify as something respectable and listenable. An interesting release from two bands, I have never heard of, probably will not run after to find out more, but definately interesting and entertaining for the four tracks that are featured on the release. -MG |
