Riff After Riff (released 2007)
Gearhead Records - www.gearheadrecords.com
I believe that Gearhead Records is re-releasing this album from the high influential and critically acclaimed UK based rock outfit The Wildhearts. This album came in two forms originally, one in Japan as a seven track album, and then later in the States as a full length with thirteen tracks on it. We have the latter here, and I am a little unsure, but I think all but the first track on the album have been released somewhere in the career af the band. Not necessarily on full length albums, more on b-sides and compilation collections. The Wildhearts, at first glance, are not your pop rock outfit. I suppose you cannot judge a book by it's cover, but wow! I don't think I have actually ever seen these guys until now. I was aware of their music, but until you actually see the guys, wow! I had expected some southern rock n roll, then it dawned on me who I was listening to after the first track... Wow! The Wildhearts are masters at their craft, well loved and respected in rock circles, I don't think the band can do wrong. Playing a rock that encompasses the best of the Beatles, Metal, southern rock, 70s styled attitude and just an amazing collection of vocal harmonies... Incredible! I would even say, that if teh Dwarves were slowed down and cleaned up for mass consumption, the catchiness and excitablity that spews from the bands would be a close match. Again, I belileve this record to be a re-issue from the fine folks at Gearhead Records, and there is certainly nothing wrong with that path of record producing, if you're going to keep up cutting records like this one for all of us that missed it to enjoy it again. Fans of poppy rock and roll with reall rock n roll attitude, don't miss out on any Wildhearts album. This one is probably for completionists, however new fans will certainly be impressed enough with this release to become lifelong fans. -MG |
