The Unemployed (released 2006)
Creeque Alley Records - www.creequealleyrecords.com
The two piece, at first one piece, band The Unemployed play a sugary pop based rock that is very similar to Philadelphia's Zolof The Rock & Roll Destroyer, as well as some of the slower tracks found in Blink 182's catalog. If you enjoy the dancable, pop styling of Zolof with their throw back pop rock sound meets contemporary power punk rock, you'll dig The Unemployed. Main man Brian is a singwriting genius for the Unemployed, as each track just puts you in a good mood and has you bouncing about as though you were twelve again. This isn't music for you hard core punk snobs out there, it's music for those of you who can appreciate a well written pop song. Well written and well performed that is... And that's important, because having catchy lyrics just doesn't work is the riffs aren't there too. The Unemployed feature two members currently, Brian on lead guitar and vocals with Tony on drums, the band is just short of a bassist to really fill the void, but you know what...you'll never notice. Every track on this five track EP is full of life and sound that you'll be hard pressed to complain that there is no heavy bass line. I really like the album, ok sure it takes away from my street punk sensibility and cred, but I know good music when I hear it and I think The Unemployed's EP is a showcase of fine songwriting, catchy lyrics and beats, and is surely to place the band in high regard with the indie power pop crowd. -MG |
