Resurrecting the classic new wave sounds of the post-punk era of the early eighties, The Tranzmitors are well versed in writing catchy pop songs that had my feet tapping througout the very first listen. Building upon their adoration and influence from those early days of new wave, the band recently signed on with Stiff Records to release their next album. But I'm not reviewing their next album...yet. This release a ten track, thirty-two minute album full of bouncy, catchy pop rock gems, is a stunning release that reminds me often of XTC, maybe a little Devo, and even several of the classic one hit wonders from the same time frame of those previously mentioned. This album is just plain fun, with it's slick dual guitars, moog, organ, chorused chanting and clapping; you feel compelled to join in the fun and excitement the band brings to this album. I have to believe that seeing this band live would be such a tremendous experience and not something that would pass over you lightly, again bringing their pulsing energy off of this disc to life would be an experience that I would not want to miss. Back to the album however, I'm mentioned that the band is heavily influenced by new wave pop, or the post punk sound (I always hated that moniker for the times, many artists weren't punk at all, it was a marketing term)... The sounds of the new wave influence can clearly be heard on tracks such as "Plastic Genocide," "Beating Up My Heart," which reminds me of Richard Hell or Elvis Costello, and "Why Don't Boys Cry", whose title sounds a bit like something that The Cure had in their catalog. All in all, this five-some from Vancouver, BC, Canada have got the new wave resurgence well in hand and are poised to become a striking force, should the world ever come around to the pop rock sounds of the new wave era again. -MG
