Four Songs: 540 Seconds Of Pleasure (released 2007)
Self Produced
Texas-based, female fronted, rockabilly meets punk; three great qualities defining a band... The Pleasures Of Merely Circulating, a trio, blasts through four tracks, or more specifically "Four Songs: 530 seconds Of Pleasure", that border on pure rock and rockabilly with early punk influences thrown in for good measure. The opening track, perhaps the band's most popular is a poppy gem that a great opening track, if you only listen to the first song. If you ask me, the best sound can be found on the second track "Empire". I have no idea what the lyrics are about, but the music is damn catchy. "Sunshine & Drugs" is a punchy track about, I think, a drug addled individual that needs some personal care. "Topolobampo" has a great beat and catchy guitar ponches (yeah, I said ponches). Apparently, topolabampo is something... Whatever it is, it connects several cultures and countries... I don't know what it is, maybe a Texas thing (they are large enough to be their own country after all), but it is important enough to write a song about. The female vocals are great on this album, I always like it when a lady takes the lead, I guess it's just something different. I only have one problem with this release, and I'm not sure if it was intentional or not, but the production of the music sounds a little gritty, not as polished as I would have expected. However, it takes little away from the overall sound of the disc. -MG |
