I'm a little unsure about this album. You see I'm all for independent music, and music that stands quite a bit outsode of the mainstream. But I suppose I do draw the line on some things. I'm really on the fence about this release. It's cool, fun, upbeat and interesting; but alas it's not punk rock. Falling somewhere into the electro-dance funk punk realm, it's almost eighties pop! Maybe it's more indie dance pop fueled with quirky electro beats that gets its influences from the synthesizer that plays such a huge role in each track. I guess I really dig the fuzzed out nature of the recordings, the shouty vocals and incoherent lyrics, but I just can't get over the electronic nature of the disc. I know that I have heard of the band before, as their sound is unmistakable and certainly unique; it's just too unique? No that's not it... I think it's just not truly the punk rock vibe I want and desire. The Mathematicians are exceptional artists, but they just don't deliver the punk rock that I have to have. I can see this disc making it's way around a lot of underground dance halls, being mixed and remixed over and over for a pounding exciting dance fever experience. Too bad that Hussieskunk isn't an indie dance channel or quirky electro-pop outlet, as this album would be a perfect fit. -MG
