Road Warrior (released 2005)

This six song disc is a "tide you over" album, meant to keep you thrilled about the band while they work on their second release. I never heard the first album, but from this I can only expect it to be amazing. The Havoc play solid punk rock, no two ways about it. It's just plain old punk rock n roll, which equals fast, aggressive and simple. Its nothing fancy, although I really enjoy the simplicity of it, with which the band manages to have a very brutal and thunderous approach to the well worked sound. The Havoc reminds me a lot, a whole lot in fact, of Columbus, Ohio's own Downtrodn; both bands just flat out attack the music and let the audience figure it out. "Road Warrior" is a smart release, in that the band offers a nibble of what's coming up on the new disc, as well as a cover of the Partisans and three live tracks, not giving away too much of what's to come. If you haven't seen The Havoc live yet, the three live tracks really showcase the band's abilility to generate energy, as they just gush with it. Being as though there are only six tracks on "Road Warrior", I guess I didn't feel totally fulfilled with what the band offers... However, you need to keep in mind that this is just a "Reminder: We're still here" release. I'm sure once the new release arrives though, I won't be left hungry for more. -MG
