Late Night Conversations (released 2005)

The Forecast remind me a of great bar band... Not any band in particular, they just strike me as a local band that you're excited to go see everytime that they decide it's time for another show. The Forecast play simple and effective rck n roll, that is not too terribly moving, nor too threatening. The Forecast's sound just is. With dual vocalists (one male, one female), the band creates several different soundscapes that are intriguing enough to keep your attention, because the album lacks a certain amount of energy, for my tastes. It seems rare that the band even tries to cut loose and show some excitement about thier sound. The most energy the band puts out only takes place on maybe three tracks of the ten song disc. The first two songs on the album, "Seating Subject To Availability" and "These Lights", suck you in with tremendous noise and excitement, that leaves you wanting the rest of the disc to sound that way. Unfortunately, things get slow for a bit, only to be bounced back to life with "Late Night Conversations", the title track, that keeps a solid rocking excitement through and through. After that, it's all over. The three previously mentioned tracks are easily my favorites, but they don't make up for the overall mellow feeling the disc leaves you with. While I found The Forecast's "Late Night Conversations" a nice break from the barrage of solid punk music I review...I that I'm ready to get back to the punk music. -MG |
