The Eat
It's Not The Eat, It's The Humidity (released 2007)

The Eat, one of the earliest, most revered punk acts out of South Florida, have released a compilation of all of their classic material. That's over thirty tracks of classic unadulterated punk rock, that balances between 70s garage rock and early-80s punk rock. Many of the tracks are homorous, as I don't think the band took too much too serious. You really get a great dose of their sense of humor on tracks like "She's Pissed Off," "Young Man," and "Silly Drug Songs". I always try to support the previous generations of punk rock, sometimes it's hard because the sounds are so crude compared to today, but with good reason. Technology was different the genre was just beginning to become something more than just noise, and The Eat were right there in the middle of the explosive growth of classic punk rock! All at the same time as Black Flag, Dead Kennedys and The Clash. Providing the glue that made the former bands stand out was the underground acts that kept the local scenes going. That's where The Eat ultimately fit in...right alongside of many great underground artists. This release details that scene of South Florida in the period between 1979 through 1985, offering up many tracks that apparently are only available through some eBay stores. So fans of complete The Eat collections, rejoice with this great album. Oh, and there's a bonus! A second disc featuring several live events, including a reunion show from 1996. The second disc features a full twenty-nine tracks of live versions of some of the tracks on disc one, and even has some covers of classic rock ktracks from twenty years prior. This is a fun release, especially for someone like myself who was completely unaware of the existence of The Eat and their enormous catalog of tracks. Fans of classic punk, from the generation of artists that defined it as we know it today, run out and gobble up The Eat and this collection of nearly sixty tracks for yourself. -MG |
