The Destroyed were one of the original bands from waaay back in the day, think '77 era punk rock. The band, like so many fromt hat time, had hit their peak, members grew onto other projects, the band lay bare for a while, until one day... Bert Switzer and JD Jackson, original members of the ledgendary Boston band, got back together and cranked out a bunch of new tracks. Keeping true to their original punk rock sound, that many compare to the Sex Pistols, The Destroyed continue with a gritty, unrefined sound of distorted guitars and primal drum beats. This release features ten tracks, not a lot, but certainly enough for a band that has been around in some form for over 25 years! It really takes a bit of patience to get into The Destroyed, because they are so different than the sounds that are classified as punk these days, so I don't blame the younger generation for missing this disc. For anyone who had lived during the latest 70s and early 80s, this disc is a must have. Bert and JD have really come through with resurrecting the sound that made them fresh and edgy, someting that is seemingly missing in a lot of today's artists. I should point out that of the tracks on the disc, there are two bonus tracks, included in the ten I mentioned... A new version of "Lullaby", written by JD, and "Bombs, Part 1" a release from one of Bert's singles collection. All in all though, The Destroyed are a crunchy old school band who know what it's about, and can deliver a solid tune that carries the torch of the original generation of punks that paved the way for the rest of us! -MG |
