Brooklyn Towne (released 2005)
Made In Brooklyn Records - www.brooklyntowne.com
The Deacons, from Brooklyn, NY, come across as sounding like a mix of New Jersey's Worthless United and Canada's godfathers of punk DOA. The Worthless United sound comes from that fact that you can sing along to each and every song, because they seem so open and friendly to the listener. But the DOA part comes from the thrashing and screaming that makes this album stand apart from rock and punk. "Brooklyn Towne" is truely a fusion of punk and rock, that makes for an incredible release. From the opening title track through "29" to "Raise Your Hand", every track is an anthem within itself. From political dirges to friendshio laced rockers to the Neil Young inspired "Ohio," The Deacons manage to cover all of everything important to a punk band. I really can't say anything bad about this album, I've listened to it dozens of times before commiting any of my thoughts to paper. Just about every song is a stand out on it's own song that won't disappoint the heartiest of punk rockers, plain rockers and those that just plain like good music. Find this album and cherish it! -MG |
