Maybe you've heard of The Black Maria already... They recently won a contest on Yahoo for best new band or most popular new band, I'm not sure which exactly, but I know they won. Another reason you might know of these guys, is that one of the guitarists is Kyle Bishop, the formaer front man/founder of Grade. And I know all of you have heard of Grade. So, The Black Maria has their first full length album out full of eleven tracks of variation incarnations of punk rock. While many of the tracks kick out and rock, I can't help but hear the metal and rock influences. The band wants to be punk, or so it appears, but the music comes across as more straight up rock. Not the hardcore rock, and not a pop rock. Just solid, melodic level minded rock and roll/ While I enjoy the disc and find that the guys have put together a great disc, I just don't think its much more than sligtly above average. There isn't enough punding and thrashing, its almost touching in parts? I guess I'm at a loss, I like it, but not a lot. There, that says it! -MG |
