Square kicks out amped up ska punk that is not to be missed! They brandish themselves as a garage ska punk band, but they are much too polished for that moniker. These guys belt out the jams that will make your ass move and your fists pump on every track. While many of the songs on this disc are, how to say this properly, um... homosexual in nature? It's not that Square swings that way according to the promo sheet. This album is more a manifesto of brotherhood, more appropriately "love your brother". However the overtones of man on man love is blatant and right in your face immediately! The first track, perhaps the most rocking of all of them, is "Muffin". In short its a male dog, that no longer wishes to be called Rover, wants a sex change and insists that he be called Muffin, if you can get around that, you realize the song is funny and a solid blast of what Square will deliver to you on this disc! The next track only confirms the gay notions found on this album, announcing that the only reason the band plays this type of music is to get really close and sweaty with the boys. I don't believe the band is in fact openly gay, I think its just a bunch of songs about loving your fellow man. Not that its a diatribe about homosexuality, its meant to be funny and entertain! Beyond all of that, the band really puts together a great release that I have found myself listening to non-stop for weeks now. Go out and find more about Square, these guys will kick your ass all over the place and you'll thank them for it! -MG |
