Stop Doing Bad Things (released 2005)

Chicago-based four piece Spitalfield play pop-punk in the vein of (now defunct) The Movielife and Finch...you know the good fast-paced stuff. With this release, Spitalfield aren't reinventing the wheel when it comes to the neu-pop punk that is circulating around the world in the form of Fall Out Boy and others. Instead they're simply adding to that genre's body of work. The album contains eleven tracks that are worthy of singing along with, they've got a good Taking Back Sunday feel... The songs might not make sense based on the first listen, but as you get into the groove the band is laying down, you really start to put the story together and can get down to it. Now I'm not saying that "Stop Doing Bad Things" is the quintessential pop punk album of the year, but I am saying its a great collection of tunes that meshes well into what's been popular in the mainstream of punk. Wait a minute, did I just say mainsteam punk? I guess I meant radio friendly punk rock that seduces listeners of Top 40 into the punk world... Even if it is only just the surface of the punk community. All that aside, I found that this album is very listenable, moderately danceable... Ultimately "Stop Doing Bad Things" is a great album for long driving trips; an album you can sing along with over the course of a few hours and not feel bad about it in the morning. -MG |
