Canadian pop punk rockers Saturday Night Heroes have released one hell-fire set of ten tracks on their self titled full length debut. It's been quite a while since I've heard such a rush of passion on a pop punk disc. I mean most of what I get lately has more to do with girls and just happy happy stuff. The contemporaries of Saturday Night Heroes just don't cut loose their creative juices, like this band does. I mean damn near every song on this disc is a blistering track, in the vein of early MXPX or Ataris; it's exciting, powerful, fast and loud. All four of those adjectives are missing in a lot of the pop punk rock found in the mainstream today. Most pop punk bands play for humor or for mainstream appeal, Saturday Night Heroes play for great music. From the opener "Coda," with it's seemingly calm intro explodes into a full on punk rock spectacular, to "Song X" that is just tight from the start of the guitar intro through the slow mellow breakdown, Saturday Night Heroes just make damned good music. This release easily sets the band away from their competition in the pop punk landscape, just because each and every track rocks from start to finish. Saturday Night Heroes are no slouches either, constantly touring across Canada, and hopefully making their way to the States soon, they are bound for greatness. Their brand of pop punk will make them stars very soon. Easily one of the best releases I've heard all year. -MG |
