What amazes me most about this band is that they are from my hometown, and I have never seen or heard of them! I make a conscious effort to get out and support as many local artists and venues as I can, but somehow I have missed Rookie, and I should probably be shot for it. The four-piece that is Rookie, plays power pop, or pop punk if you like, in the vein of some pretty well know West Coasters... I'm thinking specifically about the Mr. T Experience and Green Day. Even when Rookie's songs are trashing or questioning someone, the tempo of the music never slows down, its always good times and fun music. Rookie simply plays the upbeat pop punk rock that has made others very well known and I have no doubt that if Rookie stays on this path that they too, well reach the same heights. This album, I think its their first, has only six songs on it, and everyone of them are little gems of sugary punk rock that will infect you after the first spin. I am on a mission now, I have got to find out where these guys are playing in town. Apparently, they have been all over the country, so perhaps you should keep your eyes open too. Rookie could be the next Green Day, Blink or more... -MG
