The latest release from Pirx The Pilot, appraently is a departure from previous efforts...I'm not sure, but that is what I have read elsewhere. I can honestly admit that I have not heard any of their previous material. I have a feeling that I'd like it though. Mainly because Pirx The Pilot plays a mix of rock n roll, with punk rock attitude and mindset. Hailing from the San Francisco bay area, Pirx The Pilot has released three discs of material, that again I have no knowledge of, but apparently have been successful enough to have created a couple of videos of their music. But then again, who can't do that these days in the age of YouTube and the like. But that shouldn't take away from the band's ability to create a stellar album, and more appreciably a stellar body of lyrical material that covers just about everything today's punk rocker abhors. Consumerism, poor Americanism (or should I say phony patriotism), and just flat out apathy in society. Pirx The Pilot really covers a lot of subjects that directly affect, or should I say not affect, but inhabit my mind on a too regular basis. Pirx the Pilot, whose name by the way comes from the sci-fi writing of a Polish born author, aren't afraid to tackle any issue head on and then blanket it in a well crafted rock song. On several occassioins, on this disc I found myself thinking I was listening to another politically motivated, or atleast politically and socially inspired artist, Hungry Ghost. The vocals and musical style between the two are very similar. Nonetheless, Pirx The Pilot offer up a great set of thirteen tracks of punk rock n roll that deals well with alternative thinking towards typical punk priorities, all stemming from the legendary social movement city of San Francisco. Find out why this three piece act is so popular, in their local area at least, by tracking down this great release. -MG
