Fans of melodic rock unite! Come out and celebrate the latest release from the band New Brutalism! The disc features two vinyl only releases, plus two unreleased tracks, heavy with the band's trademark mashing, thrashing and outright defiant rock masterpieces. The band titles all of their songs with numbers, for sake of convienance I guess, so it's a bit difficult to remember which is which, but it doesn't necessarily matter. Reson being is that every song blends into the next on this disc...strange though, becuase the tracks are from three separate releases from the band. Perhaps it's because New Brutalism has stuck with the formula that has worked for them since the beginning in 1998. The three releases that make up this sixteen track album are: "Turbo Record", "A Record Of American Fury" and a split with Hit Self Destruct. Perhaps you own the vinyl version, but for my money the combination of all on one disc not only saves space, but seems to make the recklessness of the guitar fury, sound so much more crisp and powerful. If you haven't heard New Brutalism, this album is a great introduction to them, cause it gives you a chunk of what the band has done to date. Especially since these songs were only available on vinyl, i.e. limited release. Thus the songs must be something special to harden fans, i.e that means the tracks are important to the diehards, then they most be good! I find the disc really solid, with one track in particular standing out, it's track five on the disc, but titled "048". The track reminds me of really tweaked out Rage Against The Machine. Not that the whole disc approaches a Rage sound, just this song in particular. Nonetheless, the album is rocking all the way through and doesn't once settle for anything, but heavy, energetic, powerful melodic guitar rock. -MG |
