Texas Voodoo Surf (released 2005)
Self Produced
This disc is kick ass! Texas styled surf rock with murderous undertones makes for a sick sick disc, full of twists and turns that will delight any fan of surf or guitar rock. With tracks that are all instrumental to an occasional story telling and even downright groovy party sounds, Mustang Lightning cover all the bases of surf and dark rock. What I like most is the infusion of several differenet instruments that makes for a sound as loud as a Texas rainstorm. This is really great stuff, comparable to bands found on Golly Gee Records. You know the deep, dark surf sounds found throughout the US and South America. I think that Mustang Lightning fits in well with an Estrume'n'tal and even Bob's Country Bunker. The latter linking some of the blues influence found through this disc. With fourteen tracks of guitar searing jams, steady drum beats and a hypnotic bass, Mustang Lightning lull you into their world and don't let you out. Favorite tracks have to include the narrative "Cattle Mutilation," "It Moves" and the groove-laced poppy surf instrumental "Barbed Wire". While this is outside of Hussieskunk's normal realm of punk rock, most fans of solid music of any type will find this a pleasant listen, as well as a fantastic addition to their music collection. -MG |
