Doomed Future Today (released 2006)

At first, the sound of Toxic Narcotic spills through the speakers...then Mouth Sewn Shut turns towards a ska or reggae sound. Now, the Toxic Narcotic isn't a surprise, as two of the four members in Mouth Sewn Shut are from the band. What is suprising is this funky mix of hardcore, crust and reggae... I would not have thought that they could all blend so wekll together, but Mouth Sewn Shut pulls it off. Declaring lyrical content about the atrocities found within modern society, I think that there isn't much of a difference between what Toxic Narcotic and what Mouth Sewn Shut stand for in the world. Mouth Sewn Shut, while the comparisions to Toxic Narcotic are applicable, are still their own band that came into being rather quickly and managed to have enough tracks for a live set three weeks after their inception. Now, is that because everyone here is a vetran and that they knew what they wanted to do, or was it a cosmic coincidence? I think the former, obviously, because this group of guys have nailed every track spot on... There are great breakdowns, completely unheard of in my experience with crust. These breakdowns are damn near dancable tracks, that you just don't get exposed to in the crust genre. Throughout this fourteen track release, the second for the band, you are constantly hit from all sides with a barrage of noise that replicates a hardcore street punk mixed with a sharp as hell reggae vibe, that almost has one screaming along with every hate filled lyric. Ok, hate filled isn't completely right, more hate inspired? No, no disturbed infused lyrics. That's it...the band is disturbed with the world and they've added theis own soundtrack through the use of hardcore and reggae, and then made it all crusty! fans of Toxic Narcotic (duh) will dig on this album, as well, fans of loud, fast mean hardcore punk will find it a must have. -MG
