Killdaddies (released 2007)
Tocado Records - www.tocado.com
First of all, here's something to say about this release...Tocado Records is sold out of it's pressing of this disc! That's not to say that you can't get it elsewhere, as the band themselves were one of the producers of the disc. In fact there are five lables listed on the album jacket! Killdaddies play pop punk rock n roll in the vein of The Queers, Screeching Weasel and the Mr. T Experience. It's all very good comeing from such a young band, they formed in Italy in 2003. On this ten track album, every single track is related to girls. I mean everyone of them! It's as though it's a total homage to The Queers and their accomplishments. Not that Killdaddies aren't capable of making their own way and sound, in fact they are extremely talented, their live shows are supposed to confirm their appeal to the masses. If only I could make my way to Italy. I'd probably see the sights before I went to see a band, but who knows maybe I'd get tired of all the history? Nah. Oh wait, back to this great pop punk outfit... Of the ten tracks, some of the more stand out ones would include "I'm Gonna Kill Your Daddy Tonight", how can this be a happy poppy song, tune in and find out! Another is "I Don't Like You"...forty-four seconds of crazy thrashing and vocals projected through what sounds to be a bull horn...fun! Near the end of the disc is "Ale And The Alcoholic Week-End", what more needs to be said here? In a minute and a half the band wraps up a typical weekend for the hardened drinkers out there. I really think these guys are on to something great, the tracks are all poppy and catchy, bouncy and friendly. Killdaddies are going to be huge, if they can make their way out of Italy and onto the larger stage. In fact, I think that they could follow the lead of The Queers or even Guff...hell, they should get in touch with Go Kart Records or Asian man records for some good ole US distribution. Like I said, fans of Screeching Weasel, The Queers and any of today's top pop punk outfits will find that the Killdaddies are a nice addition to the well established genre. -MG
