First of all this is a stellar release! The Hudson Falcons seem to have been around forever, although they've really only been at it for about 9 years or so. The band is incredibly mature musically, I guess I'd have to put a lot of the band's work up there with Social Distortion, Swingin' Utters, Reno Divorce, the Roustabouts and even the Staggers! Every track is immacculately crafted and delivered, each track has a part for the listener to join in and belt out a few lines. It's very crowd participatin friendly, I guess it should be considering some of the joints the band has played in (Bernie's, I know you've hosted the band before). So believe it or not, this is only the band's third full studio release! I hadn't realized it either, the band always has such a varied playlist at each show, who'd have guessed? Hudson Falcons kick things off with a solid brotherhood rocker, the title track "La Famiglia," basically explaining the closeness that we all feel as friends and family. "Fight The Good Fight" tells of not giving up even when the deck is stacked against you, and "Labor Day" which is about getting fucked over when the company you spent your life working for has decided to tell you to "Fuck Off!" all with a nice country rock twang to it, without be too overbearing. The previous two songs are just preludes to the great talent and songwriting of the band, they can cover both punk, politics, oppression and country without missing a beat. There are several other songs on this disc I could go on and on about, but let's leave some surprises for you! I'll leave you with this, the Hudson Falcons' cover of Rose Tattoo's "One Of The Boys" is the best version I have ever heard, better than the original!! Go out and find this and all the other Hudson Falcons releases, all open minded punk rockers will find this disc incredible and will jam to it over and over until the laser in the CD player dulls! -MG |
