Flat Broke (released 2006)
Noise Pollution Recording
Flat Broke's vocalist, Dick Cancer, made sure we got a copy of the band's latest effort, this self titled, blistering punk rock, sixteen track album. Playing a smatterign of street punk and oi punk, Flat Broke appeals to just about everyone. Most of the disc reminds me of the dirty and grimey sounds of BB & The Slags, you know just filthy punk rock meant to encourage alcohol consumption and brotherhood, rather than romance and storytelling. Neither is the band political, which is a break from much of the street punk I've listened to recently. Flat Broke just toss up a sound that is raw and aggressive, something that like I said, just about everyone can appreciate. If you are a fan of filthy punk rock, soaked in stale beer and covered in a sheen of sweat, then Flat Broke is your new favorite band. Throughout the album, Flat Broke don't let off the accelerator. In fact, I don't think they have brakes! Each and every track has a sing-along chorus, driving guitars, heavy bass lines and smashing drums that forces your fist in the air and a slight nodding of your head. It's not metal, it's punk rock! Inspired predominately by the old school crowd, the sixteen tracks, most of which are around two minutes long, blow right through you and leave you asking for more. Flat Broke are a band that strikes me as playing a lot of small clubs. Their attitude and sound inspires the thought of a hot and crowded basement bar with piss and alcohol and puke filling the bathroom floor; all the while the air is filled with smoke and sweat from a hard working, pub rocking band! get your draught beer in hand, and tie your boots tight, cause Flat Broke are comign to town and it's goign to be a filthy dirty night! -MG |
