Feverdream EP (released 2006)
Self Produced
This is the New Mexico Feverdream. Not the Dutch punk band. Not the Australian rock band. Not the Southeastern Massachusetts band. Not affiliated with the Feverdream Records label. New Mexico's Feverdream, dammit! This five track self produced EP is interesting, it doesn't conform to a particular genre. Yeah, there are elements of punk, rock and metal, but the band seems to barrow very little from each to derive their own ruddy garage rock sound. Featuring the classic three rock band instruments: guitar, bass and drums; the band gets creative with the use of channel swapping, distortion, and a combination of screaming and talking of the vocals to make a sound that is, somehow stand-offish. The backing vocals of track four "Become One", remind me of Anal Cunt, but the lead vocals are more from an acoustic folk punk...strange combination. One would think it would come across very emo, but with the addition of the distroted and fuzzed out guitars, you get a combination of noise rock meets metal. Ultimately, I guess I find myself confused with the lo-fi sound the band generates on this album, because it covers so many variants of rock. I like the disc as a whole, because it showcases the varied influences of the band. Look for Feverdream (NM) to be on tour throughout the southwest US, perhaps visiting your city soon! -MG |
