The fabulous Fabulous Disaster, I have recently heard broke up... Sad. These girls are great! The band has garnered fans from around the world, and were huge (or so I was told) in Europe. So big was Fab D, that they often had guarantees and well attended shows throughout the continent. Fans here know how exciting and fun the band was, well is, I hope that the separation isn't true, but if it is, that it won't last long. On this release, a split with French outfit Octoons, shows the girls still can offer up a great pop punk rock song. Four tracks are featured, I don't think these can be found anywhere else in the Fab D catlog (I could be wrong). Every track showcases the band's harmonizing vocals, shredding guitars (courtesy of Hussieskunk favorite Squeaky) and downright good time emotions. Always fun, always mezmorizing and terrifically underappreciated outside of the European punk scene. Go out and get all thsoe Fab D releases you've meant to, and let the band know we here in the States still support them. As for the other half of this split, Octoons a France based hardcore punk outfit, offers four songs of their own. The band seems a bit schizoprenic because on their first song "My Addiction" they come out blazing with screaming vocals, a massive sound that is a constant hammering of violence and aggression (awesoem by the way). But then, on "My Own Life" and "Smile And Cry", they sound like a sped up Brodii Split. They've got great vocal range, a blistering musical attack and then...boom...back into the screaming hardcore sounds. Finally, rounding out the disc, is an acoustic song? Not sure what's going on, as "Shut The Fuck Off" sounds like a great title to hurt someone with, but it comes out as really slow and touching... Strange, but it works...I guess. I like the previous three tracks much better than the acoustic tune. All in all, this is a fun release, with Fab D cutting loose with some bouncy popping tracks, and Octoons hammering you back down from your sugar high from the first four songs. This release was sent to us by Tocado Records, but as it turns out in Europe, collective releases must be common, thus album has seven labels that helped release it! Amazing! Last are two bonus videos tucked in the disc, one for each band. Good viewing, but nothing to write home about. -MG |
