Models Of Virtue EP (released 2006)
E. Lago Entertainment Group
Evil Beaver is a duo, bassist and drummer, that produce a simple rock sound, that may appeal more to fans of sideshow acts that to fans of the White Stripes. Evil Beaver just play too simple of music. The bass lines just drag, however the drumming is simple but effective. A saving grace can't really be found, at least as far as I can tell... The vocals are just ok. There isn't anything here to move you, surprise you or even inspire you. It's just here. Perhaps one good thing that came out of this album is an interesting cover of Iggy & The Stooges' "I Wanna Be Your Dog". While the cover is easily the best song on the album, it's a cover, and initially sounds like something Garbage would have done. I guess, the band's own material is just plain boring in comparison. There isn't much that excites me about this album. I had high hopes for it initially, with all the connections to some great rock bands, you'd have thought Evil BEaver would have a little something more to offer. Sadly, that isn't the case... You know, the more I think about it, maybe Evil Beaver does have a connection to some of the more popular rock bands today... As I have recently found out, Evil Beaver has opened for a bunch of them. As an opening band, perhaps they do succeed in getting the crowd riled up before the main act comes on. Not the most glamorous position, but someone has to do it. I just don't think this music has enough spine to stand on it's own. It's simple and like I said before...boring. -MG |
