What a great batch of acoustic folk rock n roll tracks! As far as I can tell, Deperately Obvious features two individuals, a lady and a gentlemen and a single guitar (with the exception a of a few tracks where guest musicians show up). The ten tracks on this album seem to be on the touchy feeling side of things, subjects regarding becoming friends (again), love, the old days, etc etc. I really enjoy the disc with the exceptional writing and compositions, I'm a huge fan of acoustic rock in any form, but it's just a bit too hippy for me. Deperately Obvious is kind of like a Jewel influenced roots rock, that doesn't have any of the mainstream catchiness. Not that Deperately Obvious aren't catchy, but they are an underground indie band afterall. Could they be as popular as Jewel, I doubt it, but they are sure to be successful with their happy, upbeat tunes. Again, i like the album and the ten songs offered are catchy enough to keep your attention, but it is very sickly sweet acoustic rock that not many crustied punk rockers would want themselves to be affiliated with. -MG |
