After Lunch We Kill Tony (released 2004)

This is an incredible mess of twisted noise and creativity! I was sure I would know what to write about this disc, when I started, but now, wow... This disc is something else. Floating somewhere between garage rock, hard rock, indie punk, and... and a sonic fury reminescent of early proto-punk bands. Classical Ass are amazing, each track is heavy hitting, pounding, and driven into your skull with a 20 pound sledge... You just can't help but to ask for more, and the band is all too happy to ablige! There are seventeen tracks of heavy groove-laced explosions for your entertainment on "After Lunch We Kill Tony". The band seems to know their limitations(?), probably not the right word, all but three of the songs are under two minutes! I really feel the shorter songs are the better ones on the disc. Even on the longer tracks, which one could assume were just slowed down versions of the shorter, faster tracks, Classical Ass keep their rep by delivering it long, hard and fast! I have thought about who I could compare Classical Ass to, but I have found that they represent a little bit of all kinds of great bands. I think of International Noise Conspiracy for their garage rock meets arena sound, Millions Of Dead Cops for the fanaticism (also singer Conrath's vocals are a drop dead match to David Dictor), roll in a good skate punk band for energy and I think you'll begin to approach Classical Ass. I like how Classical Ass mixes things up on each track, but keeps it loud and moving forward...very fast! "After Lunch We Kill Tony" is a killer collection of tunes that had me mystified at first, but I quickly became entranced with the excitement and allure that makes Classical Ass a tremendous band. Finally, I love the liner notes thanking the Taco Ninja "for assassinating their hunger", I've eaten there... The Ninja is great and they deliver! -MG |
