Written In Blood (released 2006)
Punk Core Records - www.punkcore.com
The much celebrated Cheap Sex has delivered their third full length album in four years! These fellas are prolific! In short, the band doesn't fail to give you what you want: heated lyrics, charging beats, basically driving fast music. If you're not aware, the band from San Diego, formed out of three main reasons: first, the demise of all the other bands the members were in (the Virus, the Worthless), political apathy locally, and the need for a hardcore punk sound in the southern California scene. All three reasons have driven the band as far as they are now, not even mentioning that they write great songs and play what is truely hardcore punk. That's hardcore punk...not hardcore. Anyway, this album has fourteen tracks on it that doesn't once let off the accelerator, you get a high flying, fast energy that can only be delivered by the like of Cheap Sex. Just about every track has a direct message of change and social upheaval, that is one of the main reasons for the accession of the band. They don't pull any punch, or try to dance around any issues, Cheap Sex drops a load of information and opinion right in your lap and force you to make a decision. Like it or not, you have to decide whether to follow in the order to change or get the fuck out. Those of you that find Anti-Flag as the pinnacle of protest punk, should take the time to listen to Cheap Sex, I guarantee that you will never look back to the 'Burgh again. Finally, I would have to say that while this album is rocking through and through, offers some great thought on the current state of affairs of this country and the world... The band's first release "Launch Off To War" is still the best I've ever heard them, but "Written In Blood" has it's merits too, and you shouldn't miss out on another great release from this powerhouse band. -MG |
