Coming across as a traveling band of gypsies, well that's how I equate a seven member band that plays folkish rock in an all acoustic fashion. This is pretty great stuff actually. There is quite a bit of counrty influence, alt-rock and indie feel to it, but it's not quite punk rock, but it's still alright by me. With twelve tracks, again ranging in styles of pop, rock, indie, country and folk; Bread & Roses really belt out a fun romp through acoustic rock that I find rather pleasant and exciting. Not that this is high octane rock, stripped down to it's core constituents, but it is still great songwriting, uplifting melodies and singalong lyrics...that is if you can keep up with the singer. The vocal style reminds me of Chicago's The Tossers. You know big words, delivered quickly. I'm not talking bg words in the sense that my vocabulary cannot understand them, it's just big words in that it is difficult to deliver the size of the word so quickly, or better yet the quantity of letters in a word so quickly. In fact, the vocals are probably faster than it takes you to read my explanation of them! How about that?! The album is very clearly country and Irish rock influenced, I kept hearing a tin whistle in the background on many tracks, or maybe I imagined it? No, it's there...very clearly folk and Irish insprired. Fistolo Records is clearly working along the same lines as the political group of Mischief Brew when they signed Bread & Roses on the roster. This is great stuff that fans of acoustic folk and Irish infused country will find enjoyable through and through. -MG |
