Straight Out The Sticks (released 2004)

Hardcore metal/punk music brought to you straight outta Florida. At first, I figured this was just another hardcore band that talked about themselves and how they'd kick your ass for looking at them wrong or for wearing a mohawk when you work at the mall. Turns out that Bolt Action are completely different. While they front and announce that they won't put up with anyone's shit, they go even deeper on each track. Bolt Action seem to me to be military fellas, cause their descriptions and terminology in each song is extremely well written, as though they were there. Every track talks about unity as Americans, protection of rights, killing anyone opposed to freedom, and all out violence when necessary, which appears to be quite often if you oppose what the band believes in. With a dual vocal attack, Bolt Action mixes the sounds up from each track, but the messages remain. Unity. Patriotism. Freedom. Certainly this type of hardcore isn't the norm, but Bolt Action doesn't sound like a typical hardcore band either. The music is brutal and forceful, but welcoming enough to draw in metal fans and hardcore fans alike. There are fourteen tracks on the disc, which all average around the three minute mark. While initial impressions of Bolt Action do make you take a step back, with their sheer brutal assult on the hardcore genre, you quickly fall prey to their lyrical mixes. True patriots not only speak their mind, but apply action, and I have no doubt that Bolt Action will do whatever it takes to defend their beliefs and country. Patriotic hardcore, who'd have guessed would be so incredibly entertaining and enlightening! -MG |
