Yes, yes, yes!!! I have gone far too long without my fix of Blitzkid! Back again with their rawkus horror rock assault, Blitzkid has dropped another bomb on all of us in the form of fifteen (and one bonus) hell raisin', boot stompin' tracks. From the opening tune "Black Mountain Backstep," you quickly realize that the band isn't here to talk about halloween, the undead or dark forests filled with demons, no... The band is here to rock yer ass and make sure you have a good time while they do it! Picking up the beat further ont he second track, or more importantly, keeping the energy level just as high or higher is "A Blind Bargain," a ripping track that shows the bands excitability and horror-pop-punk-crust factor. On "Dememtia" the band slows things down, albeit slightly, but there is a distinct pace change, that equals a mood change. The track is noticably slower than the previous three, not a band thing, it just stands out is all. The band doensn't just sit back on their hands... Just as quickly as the disc open, Blitzkid shift back to some of their favorite influences, bouncy sing-along 50's styled dark pop rock (is that a mouthful, is it even a possible combination?), on "Starlight Decay". "Starlight Decay," less the saxaphone, reminds me of when I first heard Blitzkid, better yet when I first saw them in Dayton. I believe Blitzkid was the first band to contact Hussieskunk, just as soon as we went on air. Goolsby invited us down for the show, and the band kicked ass! It was such a great time! Back to the disc... One thing that I have noticed on this album, is that I can no longer tell the difference between Goolsby's and TB's vokills. Maybe it's been a while since I've listened to them, or maybe they're mimicing each other for a more deadly approach to their sound? Whatever they're doing, it's working! Keep it up! Continuing on the disc, "Mary And The Storm" sounds like quite the love ballad, horror rock style... "Midnight Mile" and "Lady In The Lake" feature great bass lines that keep your toes tapping and head bobbing. On "Terror In The Haunted House", the band really shows off their ability to write a great song, and perform it flawlessly, as the guitar solo is something great from the band... I think that little run of guitar really separates the band from many horror rock imitators, by that I mean Blitzkid really has talent beyond the visual aspect of the horror rock scene. Rounding out the disc, Blitzkid covers Concrete Blond's "Bloodletting" very well, and offers a couple of slower, mellower tracks in the form of "Carve Out A Heart" and "Vanishing Riders". Both of the latter tracks, are disctinctively show closers, and disc closers. While they are written exceedingly well, and the band shows they softer side, it isn't the same energetic approach that I most appreciate from the band. To wrap this up, Blitzkid is amazing! Stellar! These guys are huge in the underground horror rock scene, havign travelled Europe, the States and points in between, you're bound to hear about Blitzkid, and when you do, don't miss them! Blitzkid is more than an amazing band: they're a great bunch of guys, with a tremendous amount of heart, talent and personality that you need to experience for yourself! -MG |
