Reminescent of The Damned in their prime, Blanche Davidian play a punk rock variant that I guarantee you have rarely come across in your lifetime. In fact, those punk rockers out there born post-1980 probably haven't a clue as to who The Damned are... Blanche Davidian play an dancable-punk, that is instantly appears to be very dark and gothic, something that most people are proabably afraid to admit they like, because it's so far out of the norm of punk. I mean afterall, The Damned did it, but they did it when the dark side of disco crazy was hot and electo-instrumentation was hip. Some goth music that I listen to, still use the same sounds, but the reality here is that Blanche Davidian has managed to make something that can cross all musical genres and still fit into everything for everyone's tastes. It's quite amazing some of the tracks, from the opening "Ben Wa Beats" which is a throttling intro to the disc that fits well in the punk world to "Ouija Boredom", which hints at eighties rock tinged with early Bostonian punk. From the word go the disc does let up, except at the end where things get a little weird, but the point is this band plays great music that is very different than anything you have heard in a long time. I'm talking 30 years here! The disc features eleven tracks of high tempo, dark punky rock, with only nine and a half of them truely rock songs....one seems to be just a bunch of yelling, not sure what that's about... All in all, this is a band that should not be missed for fans of early 80s rock, late 70s goth punk and anyone who knows good music. -MG |
