Five Finger F#@% (released 2006)
Self Produced
Hailing from St. Louis, Missouri, the four-piece Bitch Slap Barbie offer up five tracks of street punk rock reminescent of Retching Red (ala Cider Block's vocals) and Ramones inspired choruses. Delivering fasted paced, bass heavy punk rock, Bitch Slap Barbie is certain to be destined for more than just an underground following. I can't get over how much they sound like a amped up Retching Red, yeah I said that already, but it is incredible how similar the bands sound. Yeah, alright maybe I've been sucked into the female vocals, and backing vocals, that brings to mind the Red comparison... I am a sucker for the ladies up front! But the fact is, the band plays some great upbeat thundering punk rock that stands up on its own. The best part? The band blisters through five tracks in about ten minutes! How punk rock is that? Get to the point then rumble over me with another rockin' track! I've said that for years. Don't dress up punk more than it should. Bitch Slap Barbie, hit the nail on the head with that regard, they don't fuck around. Every track is a catchy blast that hurls you headlong into a frenzied hunger for the next song! Of the five tracks, two stand out beyond the others... First, the fast paced "You Never Shut Up", can't ever get tired of using the word 'fuck'. The other track, "Pins & Needles" has a great rumbling bass line, with snotty classic punk vocals and a easily remembered chorus. Fans of old school punk rock will easily identify with what Bitch Slap Barbie bring to the table, fans of female fronted street punk are going to enbrace the band and punkers that know gritty catchy music will not ignore this album.
