So here's another disc that just showed up without any background info, but like we've said before, if someone cares enough to send us material, then we care enought o write a review! Archie Blowers And The Swingin' Angels, hailing from Fort Wayne, Indiana, have delivered to us a six track scorcher of bluesy rock n roll, that I so wanted to have a punk sound to it someway, somehow! Alas, every track is garage blues... Nothing wrong with that, in fact I think it's charming. Not to soudn as though I'm patting it on it's head like a good little child should be, it's just I wanted to hear something the disc wasn't and now I'm comign to grips that this is damn fine downhome rock n roll. It's not punk, it won't ever be listed as such, but it does stand out. What I really like about the album is the fast paced sound that Archie Blowers And The Swingin' Angels put together. There is urgency and energy rolled up into this disc. The fuzzed out vocals and guitars add to the garage feel, and again it's charming, I just wish that maybe it was more distorted...like Grafton. Archie Blowers And The Swingin' Angels could reach that point, but I feel that they won't budge too far away from the blues rock sound that is paying the bills. So in all, I think the release here is great, you get roof lifting rock n roll, guaranteed to make people take notice of great storytelling and crunchy blues guitars, but for a dire hard fan of punk rock I think the album falls a little short of my expectations of a dose of punk rock. Again that isn't the band's fault, their music is what it is, fucking great! But ultimate, I think many fans of punk may not find this of much interest. Who cares though, cause you'll hear these tracks spinning on Hussieskunk Radio in no time! -MG |
