American Distress (released 2006)
Tent City Records - www.tentcityrecords.com
American Distress is one of the many bands to come to life, ascending from the remains of the hardcore punk outfit Choking Victim. Having only previously kicked out promo albums, American Distress has released their debut full length album, and man does it kick ass! I mean this as serious as a heart attack, I was intimidated by this disc! Yeah, no kidding! I find the album insanely impressive! I was afraid that I would not be able to provide a sufficiently appropriate review of the album, you know to match what is being heard throughout this twelve track (well, thirteen) album. From the first track, "Fraudulent Times", which incidentally sounds like a track the Pseudoheroes might have written, to the last "Be The Law", there isn't any reason to dispute what the band is portraying on this album. American Distress are a hardcore punk band with revolution and society shift on their minds. With songs detailing the issues of the "desensitized" nature of Americans, lying goverments, the sensational press and it's misinformation campaign; American Distress simply lay that information before your feet and stomp on all the doubletalk and bullshit rhetoric of those that want to take advantage of the average American. The lyrics are incindiary to be sure, most protest/socially conscious bands rarely get a chance to spread their message because of the lyrical content, because most people simply don't want to hear it. American Distress however has managed to package their message in a tight little ball of hardcore punk, and threw it at ninety miles an hour at your head, to be sure that you get the message. Most listeners of punk rock will find the tunes impressive in their own right, afterall this is a band that coalesced from the remains of Choking Victim, a band that you should know about by now. All in all, this album kicks the shit out of most of the other stuff I've listened to lately. American Distress just offer up a solid punk rock album, that you cannot disagree with, unless of course you're a brainwashed little imp of the state. Then you should probably just be drug out of your home and shot... Although, that'll be tough, because your masters have told you it's dangerous out there. Don't believe the bullshit, listen to American Distress and fight for yours and other rights, by breaking free of the sales pitch you're being sold everyday! -MG |
