Sampler (released 2005)
Self Produced - www.purevolume.com/alwaysrushingby
Marlboro, New York's Always Rushing By play a mix of pop punk and emo rock that is very sickly sweet. They remind me very much of Victory bands or even those featured on Drive Thru. Always Rushing By sound like they have their shit together with the songwriting bit, they can definately play their instruments, but if you ask me, there is just something missing in Sergio's lead vocals. I'm thinking along the lines of passion... Yes, that's it! Passion! While the music is fluid and draws you in, the vocals seem to be lacking... Especially on the first track, of the two featured, "Seemingly Silent And Secretly Sighing". It's not that Sergio can't sing, it's that the first song is a solid rocker of a tune, but takes a dive into the dark side when Sergio depressingly begins in. It just seems to ruin it for me. I know the song is meant to be depressing, but its almost like he's whining. All that aside, I do find that this two song sampler is really good. I think either of the two tracks would be a good fit on college radio playlists. The musicianship is solid, and will have the emo kids slowly noding their heads to the pounding drum beats thrown out by Dave. This is a great intro for us at Hussieskunk, and we hope to check out more from the band soon. You should to at their Pure Volume site: purevolume.com/alwaysrushingby. -MG
