Visit Town
A quick history of town as we remember it: The ranch has been around in one form or another for over 140 years. The ranch spans over 18,000 acres, has the above town, quarters for Guest Services personel, and functions as a working ranch raising cattle. The first family owned the property from the 1860s through the 1960s, when they decided to sell the property. The third owner in the mid-1980s decided to relocate some of the old homestead cabins found on the property and move them to a central location, for the purpose of friends to have a place to hang out and visit. Thus, the foundations of the town began to be formed. When Phillip Morris purchased the property in the mid-1990s, the town began to blossom, completing the final layout seen above and in the linked images. Prior to owning this property Philip Morris leased the area from the owner, upon the purchase, PM ended their leases on other ranches around the country, most notably the ranch in Arizona.
As we were told during our stay at the ranch, everything has either been refurbished, rebuilt or purchased in an effort to keep the same feel of a town from the era surrounding the 1890s. As we were told, most buildings in the town were old buildings found throughout the property, that were torn down and rebuilt on the town site thoughout the life of the ranch. Just about every wall in every building features images of historic areas surrounding the ranch and local towns, from old ranch hands at work to local historic figures to antique toys, tools and equipment. All in all, the town is laced with history at every turn, that is just as interesting as the visiting town itself.
