Radio Listening/Connecting
I click on the "Listen Now" link, but nothing happens? What's the problem?
First of all, the Hussieskunk player is a pop up window. If you have pop up blockers on, try turning them off temporarily or just allow pop ups from Hussieskunk. We don't use any pop up advertisements! Only the player is a pop up window. If you are still experiencing problems, read on or contact us and we can usually resolve the issue pretty quickly.
I can't connect to HSC Radio. The the stream doesn't begin/I hear static. What's the problem?
The problem is most likely very simple. Currently we have two types of streams. The first using Windows Media Player, the second using an embedded application called StickAm. If you have Windows Media Player installed, the standard audio player should start right up after a few seconds of buffering. If buffering is taking exceedingly long, or the stream starts and stops frequently, the issue may reside in your connection speed. If you can connect and hear nothing, don't panic. We have many songs that are either very quiet or have a long pause between the music. As you have probably experienced with songs that have hidden tracks on them. Just sit tight for a bit, the stream should arrive. If you choose to use one of the StickAm enhanced players, hold tight, as StickAm is a popular web site and often times traffic can be heavy. This results in delayed listening. Additionally, StickAm offers video, which in itself taks a lot of time to resolve and transmit. Lastly, if you are behind a firewall, this may be your problem. Hussieskunk cannot offer any solutions to your individual network and firewall connections. Ask your network administrator to help with allowing Hussieskunk to stream to your machine. If your patience has run thin and you cannot wait any longer, contact us and let us know the exact details of the problem.
The "Now Playing" feature is great, but sometimes I don't see anything/the page disappears. How do I get it back?
Our "Now Playing" feature is now all over the site. At the top right of each page you will be able to see what is currently playing. Previously you could only view the currently playing artist on the HSC player or on the Now Playing page. The "Now Playing" feature currently used by HSC is refreshed on each and every page once every thirty seconds. It is looking for the latest and greatest of what's being played, and so sometimes there are some traffic problems. Ultimately what is going on is that a simple plug-in here in the studio populates a page and transmits it to our server at the beginning of each song. The page is placed out there once and only once during the life of that track. If you happen to see that the "Now Playing" page doesn't appear, that is due to our server not allowing or interrupting the temporary connection. The simplest solution on a regular HSC web page is to wait until the next song begins playing and hit your "Refresh" button. The currently playing track should reappear, once the new page has been uploaded. Now, the HSC player is a completely different story. The way the player is set up is that there is no "Refresh" available without resetting your connection to HSC. If you don't mind this minor inconvience, we suggest clicking on the top HSC banner on the player, right click and select "Refresh" (or you can click and hit F5). This will rest the player (the stream), and the "Now Playing" feature will return. Alternatively, if you have a steady hand, you can click where the "Now Playing" feature should appear on the player, and then right click, select "Refresh". If you click in the correct spot, you can refresh the "Now Playing" feature, without resetting the stream. We are aware of the issue and are currently working on fixing the potential problem.
Occasionally, the music seems to stop, but I am still connected to HSC...What is going on?
Hussieskunk takes pride in the fact that we play every song featured on an album. That means that sometimes those hidden tracks we all know and love end up getting played. Yeah, so what you say... Problem is, that we must have missed or forgotten about the dead space between the first song and the hidden track. Oops! We're trying to locate all of these songs and edit them properly. We think we have most of them, but with 25,000 songs, it's easy to miss one. There could also be a second problem, which we are currently working to correct... Every once in a while, the player we use to send the stream out to you, hangs up. It's nothing major on your end or our end, it just happens once in a while. This falls on us as a house cleaning project, we simply need to reboot and clean out the temporary files stored on our broadcasting machine. We currently go through this reboot and cleaning once per month. If need be, we will increase the frequency of this. But we need you help to monitor this issue. If you experience any dead time on HSC, that is without any expected music or noise and you know you are still connected, please contact us. We need to know the time of day and your location (so that we can figure out the time it happened here). We'll work to correct this inconvienent issue, but for now it appears to be of small concern. |
