Ieperfest news update 9 May 2008

Let's not beat around the bush kids! We have been working extremely hard at the Genet HQ and are proud to add no less than 20 names to the already fabulous Ieperfest 2008 bill. Some of these bands really are top quality underground hardcore/metal so we hope you will all appreciate their presence as much as we hope to do!
SINKING SHIPS decided to call it a day, so they won't be coming over any longer. That's the only cancellation so far, let's hope it stay that way!

Newly confirmed are:
AFTER ALL (B) Thrashing Bruges metal outfit combining killer heavy riffing with catchy melodies and choruses. Presenting their brand new album "The Vermin Breed".
ALL MY SINS (B) The newest H8000 bomb bringing straight forward NY style hardcore with loads of melody and singalong parts. Featuring current and former members of bands like CROSSED THE LINE, 187, 1OUTTA6, OUTCAST and RETALIATE. For fans of SKARHEAD, BLOOD FOR BLOOD and MADBALL.
ALL SHALL PERISH (USA) Brutal Oakland, California death metal with a tasteful dose of melody, mixing vicious mosh and technical flare. For fans of CANNIBAL CORPSE, DYING FETUS and The BLACK DAHLIA MURDER!
BLOOD SPENCER (D) Manic Münster metalcore madness! For fans of AS WE FIGHT, CALIBAN and MORDA.
BLOODCLOT (USA) The sound of the New York underground rising again!! Fantastic all star formation featuring John Joseph (CRO-MAGS) as well as former members of BIOHAZARD, The SPUDMONSTERS, MERAUDER and PRO-PAIN!! Expect classic New York hardcore intensity with extreme metal precision and brutality.
CANCER BATS (Can) Toronto 4-piece CANCER BATS come to destroy. Fueled by a burning desire to rage harder, play louder and have more fun than any other band, they mix hardcore, southern metal and punk rock into a lethal rock and roll explosion.
COMMON CAUSE (N) Drawing influences from 80's hardcore bands like YOUTH OF TODAY, STRAIGHT AHEAD and The ABUSED yet melting it into a sound of their own. Featuring former members of DAMAGE CONTROL, ONWARD, ENFORCER, SHIPWRECKED and SOULFIRE.
DISCARGA (BR) Fastforward Brazil thrashcore attack! For fans of INFEST, SIEGE, NEGATIVE APPROACH, LÄRM, etc. Featuring members of RATOS DE PORAO and POINT OF NO RETURN.
FEAR MY THOUGHTS (D) Passionate melodic metalcore highly recommended to fans of MASTODON, the HAUNTED and ISIS. They had to cancel their 2007 presence but are now ready to take the IF 2008 stage by storm!
JERUSALEM THE BLACK (B) Straightforward rock and roll hardcore influenced by bands like The BRONX, CRO-MAGS and REFUSED. Featuring ex-DIE MY DEMON members as well as current SUNPOWER drummer Davy on vocals!
The LOCUST (USA) This San Diego, California band's sound was once described by a journalist as "a car-wreck with vocals": ultra fast songs, atrociously ultra-violent and drenched in sci-fi-noise, gruesome keyboards and herky jerky, bestial scream/sing vocals. Really proud to have them back for a 2nd Ieperfest performance!
MANS RUIN (B) H8000 heroes featuring Josh formerly of CONGRESS, LIAR and KINGPIN as the singer/guitarist. Influenced by boozing, speeding, ladies...KYUSS, BLACK SABBATH, DANZIG, ONLY LIVING WITNESS, etc.
MAUDLIN (B) Experimental sludge mixing the best of legendary bands like PINK FLOYD, ISIS, NEUROSIS and LED ZEPPELIN. Debut full-length out spring 2008.
NOTHING GOLD CAN STAY (AT) Vienna's longest going HC band will be presenting their sophomore album at Ieperfest 2008. For fans of JUDGE, CRO-MAGS and The HOPE CONSPIRACY.
PARKWAY DRIVE (AUS) Australia's leading melodic metalcore act with an exclusive summer festival appearance at Ieperfest!
PSALM (B) Brutal and dark black metal like EMPEROR & BEHEMOTH. Their most recent effort "Manifest" was released early 2008.
RINGWORM (USA) Cleveland metallic hardcore champions carrying on their legacy of dark, vicious music with bleak lyrics and a metal crunch. HC in the classic Clevo style, bringing to mind bands like INTEGRITY and IN COLD BLOOD but keeping their own niche, thanks in part to Human Furnace's signature vocal style.
SOUL CONTROL (USA) Reflecting a time when hardcore had much more compassion, awareness and accountability, these Providence, Rhode Island youngsters bring heavy, driving, rhythmic hardcore influenced by BAD BRAINS, BURN, BANE, 108, STRIFE and QUICKSAND.
SS DECONTROL (USA) Ieperfest is extremely proud to present Boston's most legendary hardcore band, ready to hit hard and play all the classics we have been cherishing and singing along since ages! The Kids Will Have Their Say!!
VERSE (USA) Passionate Providence hardcore for fans of BANE, CHAMPION, COMEBACK KID, MODERN LIFE IS WAR and TURNING POINT.

That's it for now. Keep on checking the website as there will be more updates coming shortly!

News from the Stickman Ranch

There's alot happening at the Stickman Ranch these days - new releases, tours, office renovations, and of course the normal everyday level of chaos. So let's get started, shall we?

The following two releases are now available through the mailorder, which can be found on our website www.stickman-records.de:

1. Haircuts - Motorpsycho on Film 2DVD
2. Monochrome - Cache CD / LP

It's hard to believe that the Motorpsycho deluxe 2DVD is actually here! We've been working on this project for years, and there have been many delays and hiccups along the way. In fact, I've called this project "doomed" and "jinxed" more times than I care to remember over the past couple of years (and even more often during the past six months) But it's here, it's ready, and it can be shipped out the door immediately.

The Monochrome album is also ready to go, and although it won't officially hit the shops until May 16th, we're offering it out through the mailorder as of today. The band is starting their short Spring tour today in Stuttgart and will also be selling the album at their shows.

Upcoming tour dates:

Monochrome:
07.05.08 - (D) Stuttgart - Schocken
08.05.08 - (L) Luxemburg - d:qliq
09.05.08 - (FR) Paris - Mains d'Oeuvres **cancelled**
10.05.08 - (D) Solingen - Kulturzentrum Cobra
11.05.08 - (D) Hamburg - Grüner Jäger
19.09.08 - (D) Oldenburg - umbaubar
20.09.08 - (D) Köln - Gebäude 9

Motorpsycho:
17.05.08 - (D) Berlin - Postbahnhof
18.05.08 - (D) Cologne - Live Music Hall
20.05.08 - (D) München - Backstage Werk
22.05.08 - (I) Florence - Viper
23.05.08 - (I) Rome - Alpheus
24.05.08 - (I) Rimini - Velvet
25.05.08 - (I) Milano - Alcatraz
28.05.08 - (NL) Eindhoven - Effenaar
29.05.08 - (NL) Utrecht - Tivoli
30.05.08 - (D) Bremen - Schlachthof
31.05.08 - (D) Hamburg - Fabrik
01.06.08 - (DK) Copenhagen - Lille Vega
20.06.08 - (USA) Columbus, OH - Wexner Center for the Arts
21.06.08 - (USA) Louisville, KY - Terrastock Festival
22.06.08 - (USA) Chicago, IL - Empty Bottle
03/06.07.08 - (DK) Roskilde - Roskilde Festival
19.07.08 - (D) Burg Herzberg - Burg Herzberg Festival

I'd also like to announce the Hamburg "Label WG". WG stands for "Wohngemeinschaft", a word that means sharing an apartment. It brings back memories of my college days, living in a big apartment with other students...and nobody ever washed the dishes. And often times there was somebody asleep on the couch that nobody knew. The Hamburg labels aren't physically moving in together, but we have started a loose cooperation and will be joining forces in terms of marketing, promotion, and all kinds of activities. One of our activities will be a blog which can be found here: http://labelwg.blogsport.de/. The blog will be in German six days a week, and I will be blogging in English one day a week for our international friends. I don't know exactly which day of the week will be "English Day" yet, but I'll announce it on the website in the next couple of days when we get the ball rolling. The labels taking part are (other than Stickman): Affairs of the Heart, Audiolith, BB Island, Buback, Crunchy Frog and Devil Duck.

Kick-off for the Label WG is tomorrow! In fact, there is a series of shows and happenings going on in Hamburg this week, including a party at Michelle Records on Saturday, starting at 12 noon. I hope to see some of you there! Here are details for the happenings this week:

08.05. Hamburg, Grüner Jäger - Bratze-Release party + Captain Capa
09.05. Hamburg, Fundbureau - Björn Kleinhenz
09.05. Hamburg, Hafenklang - The Others aka 22 Pistepirkko
10.05. Hamburg, Michelle Rec./12 noon: the Label WG introduces itself + Björn Kleinhenz
11.05. Hamburg, Grüner Jäger - Monochrome followed by DJ Manni Fest + Crunchy Jan

In the meantime, enjoy the sun - who knows how long it will last....

EXPLOSIONS IN THE SKY CURATES ATP AND TOURS THE WORLD

We are so very proud to announce that our very own Explosions In The Sky has been invited to curate the All Tomorrow's Parties Festival, taking place May 16-18 in Minehead, UK. The already-impressive line-up continues to progress, but so far it includes living legends (Dinosaur Jr), urban legends (Ghostface Killah), legends of the new school (Iron & Wine, Animal Collective, Silver Jews) and legendary reunions (Polvo). But before all that goes down, EITS are crossing the globe once more in support of last year's 'All of a Sudden I Miss Everyone.' Having already visited Australia, UK, Asia and North America this year, they'll cross Europe this month and end in Moscow, Russia. These will be the last tours the band does until they release a new album (which could be a while), so don't miss out!

ENVY ANNOUNCES SPLIT ALBUM WITH THURSDAY

We've decided to convert rumor into fact and lay it all out for all you good peoples. New Jersey's Thursday and Old Tokyo's Envy will come together to release a split LP+CD this fall, and we will be releasing it. It will be a limited edition LP+CD set. There will be no separated CD or LP versions. Both formats will come in one package, and both will contain the same music. This means it probably won't be available in Best Buy, Wal-Mart, Circuit City, or most "record" stores in the mall. But it will certainly be available at your local independently owned record store, while supplies last. We're not exactly sure how limited it will be yet; maybe 10,000, maybe a billion (probably closer to the former, as we really don't have space for a billion LPs). In addition, there will be a deluxe, hand-printed edition that will be sold exclusively through our webstore. These will be screenprinted by hand, and will be limited colored vinyl editions. There is no specific release date set yet, but look for this around Sep/Oct.

Suicide Squeeze is proud to announce the signing of Seattle-based, quartet, THESE ARMS ARE SNAKES!

THESE ARMS ARE SNAKES conduct turbulent blends of angst-ridden destruction and angular jolts of post-punk reminiscent to the early sounds of Swing Kids, The Refused, or Nation of Ulysses. To date the band has toured with the likes of Minus the Bear, Blood Brothers, Big Business, Cursive, Mastodon, Against Me!, Isis, Pelican, Hot Water Music, and other likeminded heavy hitters in today's thinking man's punk and metal circuit.

The band will begin recording their new album on May 9 at Red Room Recordings in Seattle, WA. with drummer Chris Common doubling as producer. The yet to be titled record will be released on October 7, 2008.

D.O.A. ANNOUNCE 30th ANNIVERSARY TOUR

Over the past thirty years D.O.A. have released 12 albums and sold one million copies during their storied career. Band Leader Joe Shithead Keithley has gone on to start his own label Sudden Death Records and, with members of D.O.A, started a side project called Band of Rebels. Keithley captured his musical history in his Canadian bestseller autobiography I, Shithead - A Life In Punk (Arsenal Pulp Press). In 2003, Vancouver Mayor Larry Campbell declared December 21st to be "D.O.A. Day" in honor of the band's 25th anniversary.

Keithley has teamed up with co-conspirators bassist Randy Rampage and drummer James Hayden to come up with a ton of great new songs for a new album to be released this summer.Bob Rock has produced albums for Metallica, Pointed Sticks, Young Canadians, Motley Crue, Cranberries, The Cult and many others. Bob Rock is producing D.O.A.’s 13th full length album Northern Avenger in time for their 30th anniversary.

What did the Canadian godfather of punk rock have to say about working with Rock? "Working with Bob Rock is fucking cool,” says Keithley. “D.O.A. and Bob go a long ways back to the early days of Vancouver's punk rock scene. If there ever was a guy who can record a heavy sound, it's Bob and D.O.A.'s a heavy band, so it bloody well makes sense!"

D.O.A. has always maintained an uncompromising anarchist populist political stance using the slogan "TALK – ACTION = 0". The band is known for its outspoken political opinions and has a history of performing for many causes and benefits. The band has been active on many issues, including anti-racism, anti-globalization, freedom of speech and the environment.

Thirty years later Joe Shithead Keithley and D.O.A. are still just as outspoken and continue to fuckin’ rock!

Need I say more?

Hewhocorrupts, Inc's upcoming debut 7" / dropcard release with CHICAGO based PARSLEY FLAKES entitled "DEAD LIVING" is quickly approaching - June 10th 2008!!! The label is super excited for this release. Good band, good dudes and dudette, good full circle. Could this be the record that finally establishes that HWC are NOT A GRINDCORE LABEL?!?!? They hope so...something needs to put an end to the continuous ONSLAUGHT of utterly horrible METAL CORE demos they receive!!! The FLAKES are exactly what HWC feel there needs to be more of - folks playing whatever and however they want - but maintaining the punk ethic. Glass raised!

Wow, what a recording session!

EF got asked to be an a Groovie Ghoulies (the California band) tribute album (on a german label).

We decided to go to a black recording studio in a black neighborhood in NJ (where they are recording and producing the soundtrack to the next Incredible Hulk movie!).

And WOW! Did the song “Tunnel of Love” come out totally wild! The studio people were amazing, we were the first rock band to ever record there!

The song sounds like some wild Chuck Berry/T Rex/ Small Faces/ Sex Pistols song! Blistering guitars, pulverizing bass and sonic BOOM live drums!

Best recording session I ever did.

We are going back to record new EF songs there (soon as we write them!) for sure! It was really fun recording there (Moab Studios).

Walls Of Jericho "Redemption" In Stores

WALLS OF JERICHO release their guilty pleasure and highly anticipated EP 'Redemption' TODAY (online and in stores everywhere) on Trustkill Records, produced by Corey Taylor (Slipknot and Stone Sour). This EP may shock the bands fans that are used to the brutal metal onslaught that usually comes in a WOJ release. Redemption features melodic vocals and acoustic instruments bringing out a more moody and sultry side of the band. Recorded in two weeks at Taylor's Iowa home studio this release is a new watermark in creativity and sound in the band's canon. Taylor, who also lends guest vocals on the EP, sees this as a unique project. "It's one of those albums that comes around every once in awhile that every track is a piece unto itself," Corey adds. "It's not one track leading to the next. It's each track says something and says something differently, but it's done in a way that ties everything together. The end result speaks for itself. It's so beautiful, but it's so dark, you can feel it.

This EP is a project that has been in the back of the band's mind for several years, and they are excited that is in finally out there. "We have throwing around the idea of doing an acoustic record for years, because I have always been able to sing and it has always been a passion of mine. We did this record as a tribute to my mother who passed two years ago. I wanted to do something beautiful for her" says Candace and on the creative marriage between the band and Corey Taylor, "We all respect him as a musician. He is also a wonderful person that we all enjoy being around and working with. We couldn't of chose anyone more encouraging and driven to help us with this record, he's a great friend who believes in us and the music we put out. It was absolutely amazing working with Corey, I've never had a more pleasant and exciting experience recording a record. He's a nut job and we love him, he fits right in with our family" Candace adds.

The band is also gearing up for this summer's first Rockstar Mayhem Festival featuring Slipknot, Disturbed, Mastodon, Dragonforce to name a few. The tour is set to kick off July 9 at the White River Amphitheatre in Seattle and will hit Live Nation Amphitheaters in 30 cities in the U.S. and Canada between July 9 and August 19, 2008.

In addition to the EP, the band promises a new full-length CD this summer. The band is currently holed up in an abandoned house in middle-of-nowhere Michigan writing for this release. The music will definitely follow the mesh of metallic venom and concrete fury of hardcore/punk that the band is known for. Of the album, Candace says "We've been trapped in this house together living and breathing music. We're literally in the middle of woods between two cornfields. We're putting all that we have into this new record, and trust me; it will be extremely heavy. Right now we're calling it a 'thrash metal delicacy' " After they finish writing the band heads into the studio with producer Ben Schiegel (Chimaira/Zao/Ringworm).
