Newcomers to the garage scene Orangekrush (now also known as "Orangekrush69") were welcomed with open arms this week when new fans in Japan flocked to their profile at audioleaf.com and won them recognition among the site's "Pickup Artist" top ten. The band's debut EP "Sunshine Superstar", still stinking of cordite from its launch across the Pacific, has barely scratched the industry's desktops in the band's search for distribution leading up to a Japan tour. And yet the fans take note. Coming from a nation that neither invented nor reinvented Garage Rock, but sure as hell made it their own, Orangekrush takes that as "a compliment". And as if providence were inclined to agree, stateside radio stations have begun adding the tracks "Yea Yea Yea" and "Tokyo Girl" to playlists left and right, which the band hopes is a sign of things to come. "There's something about the EQ settings when these songs are broadcasting over the radio," founder and guitarist Paul Marko comments, "it sounds kick-ass... I could hardly believe that was really us." Once the band's debut release gets settled into the shops, Orangekrush looks forward to touring the album on both sides of the ocean... with the aim of bringing the world that "one great rock band" it has been wishing for. ***JAPAN AND U.S. DATES TO BE ANNOUNCED*** |
